Another Post About Colby

I write about our dog, Colby, here a lot.  His photo is even the header for this blog.  I just can't help it- he's our fur baby!  So when I heard about the Trupanion Pawliday Blog Contest, I knew another post about Colby would be in the works.  For the contest, this post's topic is "How My Pet's Love Is My Holiday Gift"

We've had Colby for just over a year now and Hubby G and I have often said, "Can you even imagine not having him!?" and it's true- we absolutely cannot.  He has brightened each and every one of our days ever since we first picked him up and took him on the 9 hour car ride home just over a year ago.  He's definitely had his share of misadventures, but it's impossible to stay mad at him.  Even when he eats my shoes.

(I made this "Google Search Story" awhile back...this post made me think about it!)

All he ever asks of us is to love him.  When I return home from work, he patiently waits for me to take my shoes off and put my bags down and as soon as I'm ready, he gives me a big hug to greet me and let me know how much he's missed me.  I asked Hubby G to videotape it so you could see how great his hugs are:

He's the most snuggly dog I have ever been around- at 55 lbs he's not exactly a lap dog, but whatever space you'll give him (or whatever he can find) he's right there snuggling and snoozing away with us.

(Colby snuggling and just hanging out with Hubby G)

Colby's love has been not only a holiday gift, but a year-round gift for me especially.  Since Hubby G and I have very different work schedules, I love being able to come home and be greeted by our furry little friend and not just an empty house.  Even in the mornings, when I wake up long before Hubby G needs to get up, I roll over, turn off my alarm, and there's Colby.  He wiggles his way right up near my face and rests his chin right on my chest as if to say, "Good morning! I missed you so much while you're sleeping!  I'm so glad you're awake now!" I mean honestly- how often do we feel so appreciated just for waking up in the morning?  It's an instant good start to my day.

So I don't have any miraculous story about how Colby saved me from a burning building or from drowning in a river, but he's definitely an irreplaceable part of our family and I'm so grateful for the day that we found him and he found us.  Colby isn't just a pet- he's a highly valued member of our family and he dishes out his love unconditionally and without holding anything back.  And that's definitely a priceless gift on any day of the year.
