On Tour: The Nursery
Why hello there! Here's Baby C hanging out in his room. When you walk up the stairs from the main floor, this is what you see. This room stayed 100%, completely, totally empty for the first year that we lived in this house. We always knew that it would one day be the nursery, so we just painted the one wall directly ahead green (gender neutral) and waited until we were ready for a little one!
This is just a close up of C sitting in the same spot as the previous photo. We put this mirror down on the floor and he LOVES it. He's such a ham in front of that thing!
Along that same wall is the crib. It's the Delta Cambridge crib and we bought it from Target, but I'm not sure if they carry it anymore. We really like it. Here's a sneaky tip for anyone else who opts for a crib with attached changing table: the standard changing table pads and covers don't fit- BUT you can just use the pad that comes with the crib and standard pillowcases work pretty darn well as changing pad covers! We just bought a set of green pillowcases (as shown in the photo above) and a set of blue ones and we're good to go. Just below the changing table is where we keep C's clean cloth diapers and the area below that is a tall-ish pull out drawer on wheels and we keep a flip-top garbage bin in there with a laundry bag for his dirty diapers. Keeps the smells contained and is discreetly hidden away. A few other notes from this photo:
1. The monitor (hard to see, but it's that triangle shaped thing leaning on the edge between the changing table and the crib) is our Angelcare motion monitor. I love that thing. It's one of my top 3 favorite baby products.
2. The mobile is Nature's Serenade by Tiny Love. We love it and so does C.
3. The crib skirt was a DIY project following the Young House Love tutorial.
4. The teddy bear on the changing table was my very well-loved bear when I was little.
Ok- so now pretend that you're standing in the nursery and you rotate to your left. Here's what you see:
The window has blinds and blackout curtains that do a pretty darn good job of keeping all light out so that C can sleep longer. Instead of buying a glider chair, we opted for a leather recliner for the nursery. Leather because it's easier to clean, and a recliner because 1) we thought it would be more versatile 2) it would be comfortable enough to sleep in if we were up in the wee hours of the night with our little guy.
The bookshelf on the left side of the photo is the ClosetMaid Cube Organizer with green and natural storage bins. C has a ton of books, so it's a great place to keep all of those and the bins keep his toys tidy.
To the left of the bookshelf (and around the rest of the room) are some fun dinosaur wall decals. The colors are bright and cheerful and they were a fun addition to the room. That dark blanket on the floor is for our dog, Colby. Before C was born and for the first few months after he was born, Colby was only allowed to lay down on the blanket in C's room. It helped to teach him that he couldn't be wild and crazy in the nursery- he had to be calm and chill out!
If we turn again to the left the whole wall is taken up by the closet:
Here it is with the doors closed with C's big fan and some more dino's on the wall. You can see we've made it all the way around the room and the nursery door is on the left.
And with the closet doors open! The teal plastic bin on the floor has clothes that we're either phasing in or out of his closet based on size. His pack n' play is also on the closet floor on the right side. The middle shelf has books and some toys that don't fit in the bookshelf and all of his clothes are hung on the top. The closet actually goes all the way up to the ceiling for even more storage:
Up on the very top we keep boxes for some baby items that we want to hold on to and extra blankets.
On the left side of the closet we have this plastic tower of drawers. We don't have a dresser in the nursery, but this one tower is quite sufficient! From bottom to top we keep: blankets, hats, pants, burp cloths, diaper flats, bibs, socks. Hung just above the drawers is our Ergo carrier and another ring sling.
That's it! I hope to detail the other rooms in our house for memory's sake soon!
